There is at this time a great and terrible battle between Satan and Mary

June 6 – Revival of the ancient pilgrimage to the Shrine of Lady of Walsingham in 1937 (founded in 1061 and destroyed in 1538; United Kingdom) - Saint Marcellin Champagnat, founder of the Little Brothers of Mary

There is at this time a great and terrible battle between Satan and Mary, between the hellish fury of hate and the celestial heat of Divine Love. Thousands of souls are at stake! In the midst of this abyss of hatred, look at all the souls of poor sinners: on one side they are struggling to escape the claws of Satan who furiously tries to grab them and push them into his abyss; on the other, they are held and supported by the virginal hand of their immaculate Mother, who is so eager to hide them in safety deep inside the Heart of Jesus.

But, as powerful as she is, Mary needs "host prayers" from her faithful children, especially from consecrated souls.

Watch what her other virginal hand does... The more this hand fills up with prayers, the more the other gains strength to lift souls above the abyss and tear them away from Satan. But if prayer is lacking, hell seems to prevail. This should be our strongest motivation to pray twice as fervently!

Tenderly contemplate the martyred Heart of the Mother of Sorrows, and know that everything is pleasing to Jesus when he sees the mark and likeness of his mother!

Taken and adapted from The Redeemer's Call to Consecrated Souls: Cum Clamore Valido ("With Loud Cries and Tears," Heb 5:7, p. 68)

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of death.
Amen.
